It went viral throughout social media, where the challenge was to either dump a bucket of ice water on one’s head or donate to an ALS charity of the participant’s choice.

With the challenge going viral around the world, the craze when to its next level when celebrities like Bill Gates, Justin Bieber, Mark Zuckerberg and Christiano Ronaldo joined in to support spreading awareness about ALS, also known as motor neurone disease or Lou Gherig’s disease.
