Kumar Sangakkara’s 319 and 105 in the 2nd Test against Bangladesh at Chittagong has helped the Sri Lanka veteran jump five places to become the second best Test batsman currently.
Sangakkara became only the second batsman ever to hit a triple ton and a century in the same Test match. His knock helped him gain 58 rating points (879) to take the second spot behind South Africa’s AB de Villiers (912). He is now also only the fourth man ever to score in excess of 400 runs in a single Test.
While man-of-the-match and man-of the series Sangakkara now has a slender lead of three points over West Indies’ Shivnarine Chanderpaul, his team has maintained its sixth position courtesy their 1-0 series win against hosts Bangladesh.
